The Proclamation of 1763 The Proclamation of 1763 was issued by King George sent to halt the expansion of the American colonies beyond the Apalachain mountains. Before the French and Indian war, France protected the Indians. France had helped prevet colonists from settling on indian hunting lands west of the Appalachains. Indian tomahawks killed hundreds of colonists along the western frontier. To preserve indian hunting grounds, an ottawa chief named pontiac led an uprising in the spring of 1763. Britain feared a long and bloody Indian war which it could not afford. To prevent future uprisings, King George issued the proclamation of 1763. The Proclamation act of 1763 was issued to stop the expansion of american colonies beyond the Appalachain mountains. The Proclamation act was a great document that tryed to keep peace between Britain and indians across the west Appalachains.
